Brusselse cocktailbar Under The Stairs brengt tribute aan queer icons
In cocktailbar Under the Stairs zwaait Director of Mixology, Hannah Van Ongevalle, de scepter. Intiem en sfeervol nodigt deze mysterieuze barvrouw je uit om cocktails te proberen die zijn vernoemd naar queer iconen uit onze geschiedenis. Probeer Go For Gaga (op basis van taquila), Mr Wilde (met whisky en cognac) of de Milky (vol Bacardi 8 Rum).
Under the Stairs maakt onderdeel uit van het fancy Corinthia Hotel. Van Ongevalle is misschien wel de grootste ally van Brussel en heeft het voor elkaar gekregen om een luxe bar in een nog luxer hotel hartstikke queer te maken. Zoals ze zelf schrijft op haar chosen family cocktailkaart: “He is my girl.”
We might be a kingdom but this menu does not celebrate the kings.
It celebrates the queens that have spoken up, fought, paraded and rallied for
rights - basic rights- to exist.
It is a tribute to a community where love, respect and acceptance is at its core.
Where freedom was not given, pride was not shown.
These drinks are not political, they were invented to highlight people that lived or are
living their life to the fullest, the most honest.
They walked, so we can strut.
They are what they are,
They are ready to be loved.
